The Constitution -- Goals
The Preamble sets forth the goals of the Constitution. These goals do not allocate
responsibility to any branch of government or to the people. The goals only describe the
expected benefits to be derived from adherence to the Constitution.
These goals include:
- To form a more perfect union [than the Articles of Confederation]
- To establish justice
- To ensure domestic tranquility
- To provide for the common defense
- To promote the general welfare
- To secure the blessings of Liberty.
